Art Association in Roxbury

Fine and Photographic art

What's new...PaletteThe Art Association in Roxbury (AAR) was founded in 1965. We are a non-profit organization that was formed to further the appreciation of and increase interest in the fine arts within our community. Our group is located in Succasunna, New Jersey, and most of our members reside in Morris and Sussex Counties. Our membership includes artists of all levels of experience, from amateur to professional, as well as art patrons. We invite the public to join in our educational programs, exhibits, and demonstrations.

We meet monthly from September to June. Our meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at the Roxbury Senior Center, in Succasunna, NJ, and begin at 7:30 pm. Guests are welcome. The evening consists of a short business meeting, followed by our program, which usually is an art demonstration, lecture, or critique by a renown artist. Light refreshments are served afterwards, providing the audience a chance to mingle and meet new friends. We have a great lineup of programs scheduled for our 2004-2005 season. For more information about our meetings, including directions and information about cancellations due to weather, please visit our Meetings page.

Several workshops are planned throughout the year. Most of our workshops are one-day sessions and are held at the Roxbury Public Library, in Succasunna, NJ. We sponsor workshops in various media: pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, printmaking, photography, collage, matting and framing. There is something for everyone, from beginners and more experienced artists. Please visit our Classes page to view the list of workshops planned for this year and to learn how you can participate.

Our one-day bus trips to art museums and galleries are very popular.  We generally have two trips per year. Most of our trips are to the New York City and Philadelphia areas, so that we can see the most current exhibits and spend time with fellow artists and friends. Our bus trip coordinator is busy planning some exciting trips this year. Please visit the Bus Trips page for more information on upcoming trips, including costs and deadlines for registration.

Blue RibbonOne of the highlights of the season is our traditional Members' Spring Show. Members are given an opportunity to share and sell their work within the community. The artwork is judged and ribbons and prizes are awarded to the best pieces at a gala reception.

There are several other venues for exhibiting. Our members take turns displaying their artwork at the Roxbury Public Library. Each month a different artist, or group of artists, is featured. It is a great way to share our artwork with the people who visit our local library. We also participate in the annual Roxbury Arts and Crafts fair in November. Go to our Exhibits page to see which artists will be exhibiting at the library each month and for additional information about our other exhibits.

Pencils in JarWe are proud to be able to present scholarships to local art students. All money is raised through our fund raising activities, including our annual Art Auction. To learn more, please check out our Community page.

Membership is open to all people: amateur artists, professional artists, photographers, art patrons, and the general population. Yearly dues help cover our costs. A registration form, information about dues, and a listing of additional membership benefits is featured on our Membership page.

And lastly, we have included information about other area art groups and links to art related sites on the web. We hope that you will find that our website provides you with lots of information and increases your interest in the fine arts!
