Demonstrator Biographies
2009/2010 Season:
September 3, 2009 – Steve Zazenski
www.stevezazenski.com

Steve Zazenski will give a
demonstration using watercolors. Many of Steve’s paintings use vibrant
colors which are placed next to each other and provide the viewer with sharp
and inviting contrasts of color and form. His subject matter is mainly
inspired by the landscapes of New England, Bucks County, and the surrounding
regions. Recent travels to Europe and the U.K. are the source of some of
his recent work. He shows widely in galleries and is in many private and
public collections internationally and throughout the United States.
Steve Zazenski, of Bucks County,
received his BFA from the New York Institute of Technology and has been a
full time artist since 1978. He is known primarily for his traditional
landscapes, through which he has developed a series of classes and workshops
entitled: “A logical Approach to Watercolor”.
Having personally attended several of
his classes, I can attest to his down-to-earth and easy-to-understand
teaching methods. His demonstration will be appropriate for beginners and
for advanced artists.

October 1 – Doris Schwint
www.schwint.com

Doris Schwint will be giving a
landscape-painting demonstration using watercolors and watercolor pencils.
Doris paints in most mediums, including: watercolor, watercolor pencil,
pastel, and pen & ink. In her watercolors, she enjoys painting in a
free-flowing-style. Her favorite subjects are local landscapes, Maine
seascapes, and gardens. She also is accomplished in painting house
portraits and animal portraits. She has given
many workshops and demonstrations in watercolor, acrylic, ink and collage
throughout the Northwest New Jersey area.
Doris began her art career studying at
Parson's School of Design, in New York City. She has worked as an
illustrator in New York City and in New Jersey. She is in many private
collections throughout the United States and has exhibited widely and won
many awards.

The artist is the recipient of countless major awards
in National and International Juried Competitions. A few recent

everywhere. He is
sought after as a Juror for many major art competitions. His works are in
numerous private collections here and abroad. Mr. Valenti graduated from the Newark School of Fine
and Industrial Art as a Fine Art major but is for the most part self-taught. His
inspiration and motivation comes from the belief that beauty is everywhere in
everything.

Feb 4 – Group Critique

the February meeting where members will bring unfinished and finished art in the
form of paintings, photographs and collages. Works in progress that are of
concern to the artist will be discussed as well as finished works of interest.
As always, these critiques can be informative and educational.

April 1
- Caroline Goldsmith
 We

($1/chance) to be the one who Caroline paints. And the winner will also
be able to keep the portrait.
Goldsmith has had a long career in art,
starting at Swarthmore High School, with her mentor and teacher Miss
Claudia Hancock. She went on to the PA Academy of Fine Art in
Philadelphia, graduating with a BFA.
She eventually settled in Long Island where
she won numerous awards, including from the National League of American
Pen Women, based in Washington DC; the Pastel Society of America;
Grumbacher; Winsor Newton; and, The National Art League of Long Island.
Twelve years ago she moved to Hackettstown
NJ, where she now lives and paints. While in Hackettstown, she
has won awards at: the Art Association in Roxbury; the Senior Citizens
show in Warren County ; the NJ Senior Citizens Show; and she is now the
President of the Warren County Arts Association in Oxford.
Goldsmith is known for her oil and pastel
portraits of both children and adults. She also paints house-portraits
and landscapes of various spots in NJ. Caroline’s art work is in numerous private
collections all over the United States. She exhibits her work
regularly in New Jersey. This year the Mendham Township Library will be
showing her landscapes for the entire month of April.

May 6 - Alice Harrison and
Susan G. Hammond
www.artpresspublishing.com
AAR Members and
Co-Authors of the book, “Artists’ Guidebook to a New Creative Life – Produce,
Exhibit and Sell Artwork" will present a PowerPoint presentation and discussion
of their book.
Both
Alice and Susan are artists. Susan (
www.susanghammond.com )does fine art photography and
Alice (
www.alicenharrison.com ) does painting, printmaking
and collages. They are both in numerous art collections
and art associations. And, they have exhibited their
artwork widely in galleries, colleges, museums and other
venues.
But,
their presentation will not be about their artwork.
Rather, they will be talking about the business side of
being an artist. Some of the topics they will be
covering are,
How
to:
-
manage your time and stay focused on your projects
-
organize your studio space
-
promote yourself, i.e. brochures, resumes, press
releases, websites
- get
into galleries and juried shows
-
network and make yourself known
Much
of their presentation will be from their current book, “Artists’
Guidebook to a New Creative Life – Produce, Exhibit and
Sell Artwork”.

June 4 -
Professional Critique and Art Supply Sale

Our annual professional critique will be led this year by
well-known artist Ann Kullaf. Works in the form of paintings, photographs and collages will be
critiqued. Everyone is encouraged to bring
one piece of art that you have been working on, either finished or in
process, for Ann's comments. Our
critiques are always very informative and fun.
Anne Kullaf is a faculty member of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the
Hunterdon Museum of Art, and the Somerset Art Association. She studied
graphic design and fine art at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut
and at The Art Students League in NYC. She is an elected-artist member of
the following professional organizations: Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art
Club, Salmagundi Club; and the International Guild of Realism. Anne exhibits
in numerous galleries including Salmagundi Club and the Michael Ingbar
Gallery in NYC; Trudy Labell Fine Art in Naples, Florida; Gallery MacEgan in
Morristown; Chasen Galleries in Richmond, VA; and JAG Fine Art in
Philadelphia.
W. Carl Burger will give a demonstration using oil paints. Mr. Burger
emigrated in 1926 from Pforzheim, Germany to Irvington, NJ. His early
interest in painting was delayed during World War II when he joined the U.S.
Army Military Intelligence serving in the European Theater of Operations.
After the war he attended New York University and studied fine art
education. He continued his studies at Columbia University and Rutgers
University. He also studied interior design, history, anthropology and
semantics in order to be well-rounded for his students. His level of
perfectionism can be seen in his teaching, his own art and his personal
philosophy - "Art is the very essence of the nature of our being". He served
as Professor of Art at Kean University from 1961 until his retirement in
1993.
Burger is a distinguished artist who has had one-person exhibits at such
places as the Hunterdon Museum of Art, County College of Morris, Rider
University, and the Butler Institute of Art, in Youngstown, Ohio. In
addition he has had retrospectives at the Noyes Museum, in Oceanville, NJ,
and the Morris Museum (to whom he has gifted 62 paintings. He has also
exhibited in Lincoln Center, the National Academy of Design in New York, the
Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Newark Museum.
Spunk, humor and eloquence are the man and his work. His career speaks of
seriousness. Currently, Burger’s work can be seen at the Coryell Gallery in
Lambertville and the Riverbank Art Gallery in Stockton. Also look for his
upcoming retrospective at the Trenton Museum.
